Revolution
Politics
Offsite
During the last 30 years we Americans have been so politically divided that some of us have called this left-right, liberal-conservative split a “culture war” or even a “second Civil War.” These descriptions are no longer accurate. The precise, technical word for what is happening in the United States today is revolution.

Stealth War: Barack Obama sabotages Republicans
Politics
Offsite
Tuesday’s announcement of Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.) as President Barack Obama’s nominee for Army secretary makes perfect sense from a policymaking standpoint. It’s hard to find a member of Congress who’s more well-respected or more steeped in military personnel issues than McHugh, a senior House Armed Services Committee member who has wrestled with issues ranging from recruitment to base closure to the role of women in combat.

Ideological Civil War
Politics
Thomas Brewton
Democrat/Socialists started the ideological warfare in Congress with their slanderous attacks that blocked the 1987 Supreme Court nomination of Judge Robert Bork. Now they are upping the ante by considering criminal prosecutions against Bush administration officials for legal and policy opinions about interrogating captured Islamic terrorists.

Obama chief Axelrod sells ‘astroturfing’ firm
Politics
Offsite
White House senior adviser David Axelrod – who has dismissed the April 15 tea parties as “astroturf” rather than grassroots events” – stands to profit $3 million over the next five years from selling his interest in ASK Public Strategies, a Chicago public relations firm he created that many credit with having invented “astroturfing.”

Blogging The 2nd Annual Sammies
Politics
Warner Todd Huston
We conservatives have two major problems. I’ve said it dozens of times before but one of those problems is that we don’t do “join” well. The left, on the other hand, does “join” exceedingly well. They gather together, share resources, and help each other very, very well. The other problem we have is cash.
The Nonexistent Far Right
Politics
Bruce Walker
The error of Janet Napolitano in her concern with “Right-Wing extremism” is much more fundamental than just a phobia about the huge number of Americans who believe that abortion is morally wrong, that the federal government spends too much money, that taxes are too high, and that too many decisions are made in Washington. Napolitano makes the same mistake that nearly everyone makes on the Left: they assume that they must have some ideological counterpart at the other end of the political spectrum.

‘Tea for 2 … million?’
Politics
Offsite
Well, they tried. The mainstream media honestly tried to ignore the April 15 tea parties around the country. When the sheer quantity became irrefutable, the media joined government spokesmen in dismissing rallyers as pathetic cigarette smokers upset because, geez, just a little extra taxes on ciggies, what’s yer problem?

Contact Politics Is Not For Pussycats

Ann "Babe" Huggett
It’s all too easy to get swamped with information overload anymore what with everyone and everything on political fast forward these days. In the last week alone we’ve been treated to pirates, puppies, TEA parties, secession rumors from Texas and more than half of America’s citizens being labeled as potential domestic terrorists because they don’t completely support all of the leftwing agenda of President Obama and his radical cohorts.

‘We had a tea party, now what?’
Politics
Nathan Tabor
The nation’s anger level is rising as a result of intrusive and unconstitutional acts by the federal government, especially the mishandling of the US economy by lawmakers and the White House. The indicators—unemployment, the stock market, home foreclosures, etc.—have led to an abysmal reaction by some of the very people responsible for the economic downturn in the first place. Rather than pulling back, these politicians are accelerating their pace by spending trillions of dollars and printing more paper money.

America: An ignorant nation

While President Obama may believe America is arrogant, I think he is totally wrong. America is not arrogant; it is ignorant.

Obama Derangement Syndrome
Politics

I have been watching an interesting phenomenon on the Right, which is beginning to cause me concern. I am referring to the over-the-top hysteria in response to the first months in office of our new president, which distinctly reminds me of the “Bush Is Hitler” crowd on the Left.
