The November 24 cover of Time magazine pictured President-elect Barack Obama as the reincarnation of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  It is an image of strength and hope. An image of a future filled with enthusiasm, intelligence and leadership. 

I am far less convinced than many that Barack Obama will be a centrist in office. Despite his announced future Cabinet appointees, I find it amazing that people are so willing to believe he’ll change his stripes that fast.

Anyone familiar with American political history remembers that the Whig Party, a protectionist, pro-tariff political organization founded in 1833 to oppose the free-trade Democratic party, breathed its last in 1856 during the very contentious presidential campaign. The sharp conflict between Southern pro-slavery Whigs (or anti-anti-slavery Whigs) and Northern anti-slavery Whigs literally destroyed the party. The Southerners joined the states-rights Democrats who had won the election for Buchanan, and the Northerners created a new anti-slavery Republican Party, which in 1860 nominated Lincoln for the presidency.

Ali ibn Abi-Talib, the seventh-century figure central to Shiite Islam, is said to have predicted when the world will end, columnist Amir Taheri points out. A “tall black man” commanding “the strongest army on earth” will take power “in the west.” He will carry “a clear sign” from the third imam, Hussein. Ali says of the tall black man: “Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us.”

Obama and his minions have pledged to destroy the American economy.

The Washington-based Heritage Foundation is demanding that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) audits the Obama campaign.

We are presently witnessing an historic event during this 2008 presidential election. On the one hand, we could see the first female vice president resulting from the vote. On the other hand, we may find that we have elected our first black president. Either way, a glass ceiling will have been broken, heralding in a new era in our history. Many challenges had to be met before a moment like this could take place, beginning with the creation of a written constitution which reflected an entirely new understanding about government. I’m not talking about federalism or the idea that democracy could be scalable. What I’m referring to is the idea that there can be “conflict in consensus.”

When you cut through all the smoke and mirrors and hot air this election is about whether the US will continue to exist as a proud, free, nation, or slip into socialist slavery. When historians look back on this day, they will say it was the day, the point in history, which changed America. Will America remain free, or will America retreat and surrender to the forces of socialism? The choice is ours, America.

As I write this, the United States of America is 24 hours away from the closing of the polls on Election Day, 2008. My fervent prayer is that voters are not so stupid as to elect Barack Obama president. But stranger things have happened in American politics.

Think of it.  - If a person who is black or white or whatever votes for a person simply because he is black, that is racism.
