Obama’s Newest Way To Let Unions Avoid Disclosure Rules
Unions
Warner Todd Huston
Obama and his union-sold Department of Labor has spent the last three years trying every legal trick, and some merely arrogant ones, to help unions get away with criminal behavior. Obama has especially been working to get his union patrons out of having to declare their financial information to the government like businesses have to. This month, Obama’s DOL is implementing yet another transparency dodge for his union backers.

‘Unions: On the Outside Looking In At Political Power?’
Unions
Warner Todd Huston
Since Obama began his run for the White House he has been Big Labor’s best friend. And they loved him for it, too. As Obama ran and as soon as he got into office the unions had stars in their eyes. They thought that with a bought and paid for president in their hip pocket, every long dreamed of union wish was about to be fulfilled.

Unions vs. the Right to Work
Unions

Collective bargaining on a broad scale is more similar to an antitrust violation than to a civil liberty. - How ironic that Wisconsin has become ground zero for the battle between taxpayers and public- employee labor unions. Wisconsin was the first state to allow collective bargaining for government workers (in 1959), following a tradition where it was the first to introduce a personal income tax (in 1911, before the introduction of the current form of individual income tax in 1913 by the federal government).

Washington State’s SEIU Bought Republican
Unions
Warner Todd Huston
On February 24, Moe Lane(1) posted a short piece alerting one and all to the fact that one of the Republican candidates for Washington State’s 3rd Congressional District is a favorite of the hard-core lefties in the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)—one of Obama’s favorite Big Labors cohorts. Mr. Lane, though, was sure that Jaime Herrera “regrets that endorsement now.” Unfortunately, I am not so sanguine because Herrera has been far more compliant with Big Labor’s goals than is evident from what Lane might have thought was a mere wayward endorsement.

The Left Strikes Back

On April 16, the Board of Trustees at the College of DuPage, a large community college in Illinois, made history by voting unanimously to adopt the Academic Bill of Rights and include it in the school’s policy manual, making DuPage the first campus in the nation to have adopted the actual text of the Academic Bill of Rights and only the third campus to recognize student-specific academic freedom protections. But the teachers unions, understanding the threat the Academic Bill Rights posed to their political agendas on the DuPage campus, were ready for this development and engineered the installation of a new Board to reverse this decision on May 4, a scant two weeks after DuPage had committed itself to academic freedom.
