Watergate’s Forgotten Lessons
Elitists
Alan Caruba
"The United States was resolved to intervene on behalf of its interests, but it was also resolved to intervene in such a way as not to violate the principle of nonintervention,” wrote Prof. Han J. Morgenthau, examining the lessons of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion that was intended to overthrow Fidel Castro.
Pure Lunacy! More Global Warming Madness and First Amendment Attacks
Bird-Brain Flu
Felicia (Fee) Benamon
Could we get any more idiotic than this? The designation of July 4th, our Independence Day as “Energy Independence Day”! Have I missed something? Has the Global Warming fanaticism hit SO hard that now we direct attention away from one of our most patriotic days celebrated in our nation to declare our allegiance to… “Mother Earth”?

The Chicago media were all agush on May 4th over the opening of Oprah Winfrey’s musical treatment of ‘The Color Purple’. Breathless were the reports of who was in attendance and star struck was the celeb watching as the limos pulled up in front of the Cadillac Palace Theatre in downtown Chicago.
The Grand Old Party Is In Trouble
Republicrats
Edward L. Daley
Apparently the entire Republican party has lost its collective mind, as is evidenced by the fact that the GOP’s presidential candidates agreed to let a partisan, liberal hatchet-man like Chris Matthews[1] run their first national debate[2] on Thursday evening. Along for the ride were John Harris[3] and Jim VandeHei[4] of The Politico.com, who’s questions actually made Matthews’ blatantly anti-rightwing interrogatives seem almost unbiased in comparison.

Illegally entering the United States is a misdemeanor under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. The objective of the Act is to provide for deporting illegal aliens, not imprisoning them here. That would defeat the purpose.
Islamist takeover stopped in Bangladesh?

Three and a half years ago, anti-jihadist Muslim Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury blew the lid off secret Islamist efforts to take over Bangladesh. He published his revelations in an article that, unfortunately, the Bangladeshi press refused to touch. But he persevered, and when “incubating ultra-radicalism” started appearing on websites, the government struck. Using a minor offense as a pretext to detain him, it held Choudhury under deplorable conditions. He was hauled in and out of court numerous times, always returned for “interrogation.” That meant torture, which his openly Islamist captors applied in an attempt to extract a false confession that he was a spy for Israel.

Irvine, CA--On Tuesday president Hugo Chavez forced ConocoPhillips, Chevron, and Exxon Mobil to cede operational control over their multi-billion dollar projects to the Venezuelan government. With their backs to the wall, these oil companies are “negotiating” the terms of their surrender, and trying to get some “compensation” for the property being stolen from them.
Temple U Takes Action on Antiwar Spam

In a victory for academic freedom at Temple University, Provost Richard Englert took prompt action after he was notified by the Temple College Republicans that the official Honors Department listserve was used to send out a blatantly partisan anti-war email. The victory was somewhat tempered by the provost’s insistence that the email did not violate the university’s recently adopted academic freedom policy, but that it was simply a matter of “failure to comply with a process for administrative review.”

EAST LANSING, Mich., May 3, 2007 - After months of public pressure, Michigan State University (MSU) has ended its controversial Student Accountability in Community (SAC) program. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) urged MSU to end the SAC program because it forced students whose speech or behavior was deemed unacceptable to undergo ideological reeducation, or else face effective expulsion.
Now Liberals Want A “Rubber Stamp”?
Progressivism
J.J. Jackson
When Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House liberals used to complain that Congress was simply being a “rubber stamp” for President George Bush and his right wing agenda. They wailed and they moaned about how it was such a terrible thing and used procedural measures and phony filibusters to stop anything that they could from coming up for a vote. But now things have apparently changed. Apparently now that liberals are in power they are upset that there isn’t a “rubber stamp” on their policies.
