Harry “The War is Lost” Reid is a perfect example of what Rudy Giuliani was talking about this week:  Democrats don’t understand the enemy.  This “lost” war is still in its early stages and actually needs to be “found” by the Democrats.  Giuliani rightly described Democrats as defensive-minded when it comes to Islamic militants who desire to destroy our way of life, when the correct course of action - the one chosen by President Bush - is to be on the offensive.  Only one Democrat seems to get this.  That is Connecticut’s Joe Lieberman.  (Oh, yeah, he’s not a Democrat anymore).

Since the VT shootings in Blacksburg, Virginia, we have seen all manner of wild-eyed, anti-gunners come out of the woodwork to cynically use this crime as a chance to beat their gun grabbing drums. But, proposing that we send government Stormtroopers to smash down the doors of every home with a gun in it to confiscate their Constitutionally legal firearms is a step I haven’t seen in a purportedly responsible newspaper.

Sen. Richard Durbin (Asst. Minority Leader for the Democrats) has reintroduced S.654 under the pretext of the need for food safety protection, thereby creating a new federal food safety agency. This is very dangerous legislation for consumers of dietary supplements as it would repeal the DSHEA Act of 1994, and if signed into law, as currently proposed, dietary supplements would be reclassified and regulated like drugs. 

When it comes to health freedom, this is the FDA’s end game. A new FDA “guidance” document, published on the FDA’s website, reveals plans to reclassify virtually all vitamins, supplements, herbs and even vegetable juices as FDA-regulated drugs. Massage oils and massage rocks will be classified as “medical devices” and require FDA approval. The document is called Docket No. 2006D-0480. Draft Guidance for Industry on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Products and Their Regulation by the Food and Drug Administration.

Quality of Life - Thomas Jefferson proposed that every American enjoy, “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Back in 1776, that meant food, shelter, a rich and rewarding family-life, spiritual awakening, employment and creative expression. 

The FDA under President Bush, is planning to take all dietary supplements, exercise equipment, and even therapeutic massages out of our control and make it necessary to receive a doctor’s approval before we can use these items. The proposal for the new regulation is known as Docket # 2006D-0480 Draft Guidance for Industry and Alternative Medicine Products . The FDA is taking public comments on the matter until April 30th.

Our nation was shocked and grief stricken early last week by the horrific and evil actions of a madman in Virginia whose callous disregard and utter disdain for the value of human life tragically robbed the world of 32 precious souls.

When I found out Art Garfunkel would be performing in Boston in April I immediately bought myself a ticket even though the show was more than two months away.  I didn’t want to take any chances.  Having been weaned on Simon & Garfunkel I would have loved to see them together in concert.  But I was quite happy to see a solo show by one or the other.
