Where did this strange animal Political Correctness (PC) come from? Never in our history have we had to be afraid of what we say, write, and do.

An issue that has garnered much attention lately, in between the media bites about Iraq and the salacious lives of celebrities, is the controversy over global warming. Both the pro and the con side consider their opponents the heretical misfits and purveyors of junk science.

On Friday, February 2, 2007 the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a document titled: Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis, Summary for Policymakers.  This is a political document.  It is not the supposedly scientific document which is titled: IPCC Working Group I Contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report: Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis.

Handicapping 2008 - Part I: The Dems - The 2008 Presidential Campaigns have already started. It will be long, nasty, and big bucks are going to be spent.  Handicapping a broad field of wannabes 22-months prior to the election is a fool’s errand. Since this is not an event but a process, let’s begin with some basic observations.

The Bush administration claims to have a way to deter the militant theocracy of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons--and thwart its ambition to bring “death to America.” Washington’s plan aims to pressure Teheran, financially and psychologically. The idea is to cut off Iran’s nuclear program from banks and businesses in other nations, and to undermine the confidence of Iranian officials. The right amount of pressure, we are told, can induce Teheran to give up its nuclear program.

It is a shocker, but the AP actually let loose a kernel of truth about the situation in Iraq in one of their reports for a change. To wit, if ‘Iraqi insurgents wait long enough, the USA will leave’(1) and they can come back on the scene with guns blazing and knives sharpened for decapitations.

According to Roman mythology, the god Janus had a number of functions, or responsibilities, if you will. One of the less prominent in the Roman pantheon, to be sure, his most memorable feature was (and is to this day) that he was depicted with two faces looking in opposite directions.

With the issuing of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report on February 2, waxing climactic about the climatic is the order of the day.  The esteemed, government-funded scientists with no agenda who rendered the study inform us that man is almost certainly responsible for rising temperatures and, furthermore, that dramatic climate change is unstoppable.  But, after seeing various luminaries sound the alarm, I think I can confidently say that, hell’s bells, we’re darn well gonna try anyway.

After scoffing in my last column about the ridiculous Nobel Peace Prize nomination of former Vice President Chicken Little (aka Al Gore), I really had no intention of wasting any more time or thought on the issue of global warming for the foreseeable future. But then columnist Ellen Goodman weighed in with her arrogant opinion, and I just couldn’t let it go. 

"We are at a tipping point. We must act, and act swiftly ... Such action requires international cooperation.”

As we in the Western world have come to expect, many Muslims and Islamic organizations claim “outrage” at almost anything and everything they can find.  They rioted, burned buildings and vehicles over cartoons that parodied their prophet Muhammad.  Then Muslims rioted, burned buildings and vehicles and even murdered a nun when Pope Benedict XVI quoted a 14th century Emperor who was critical of Islam.  Like the Left, apparently, they have little to do - except riot or protest and attempt to silence all of those who have the unmitigated gall to disagree with their tenets of belief.  Political correctness has completely taken over the secularists of the West, which has become feckless, jaded and pathetic.  Now, all that terrorists and their supporters have to do is complain that they are “being discriminated against” (and threaten to call someone - somewhere - a “racist") and the West caves easily and willingly to all of their demands.  Nowhere is this surrender more evident than in the case of Muslims’ latest indignation.

A lot of people, attributing the current conflicts in the Middle East to either religion or oil, believe they don’t really have a dog in the fight. What cannot be ignored however is that a paroxysm of religious strife has broken out in the Middle East and it is exporting death and terror in the name of Allah.
