Quite a week ahead
Progressivism item by Ari Kaufman

This week we honor Jews who perished in the World War II Nazi death camps with Yom Hashoah, i.e. Holocaust Remembrance day. We also do this during a week where an anti-American “conference on racism” takes place abroad, led by a Holocaust-denying madman who seeks to wipe Israel off the map. Stay tuned to see if the current US president follows in the footsteps of past Democrat leaders and ignores true evil (FDR, Truman) and/or tries to befriend it (Clinton, Carter).

But to the media, academia and the left, who immaturely mocked true democracy last week with sex jokes and name calling, that’s not on their agenda at all. For this is the vital “Earth Week” whose purported purpose is to “inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment.” Alas, if it were only so innocuous, I, as someone who has traveled through much of this nation and adores its national and state parks, would be promoting it as well. But let’s be honest, this is a purely ideological week, led by al-Gore and his environmental cabal, who will make any event very partisan and, most importantly, hypocritical. John Kerry met his corrupt wife at an Earth Day rally nearly two decades ago. The rich, famous and eco-unfriendly, always find their allies at these events.

Will Al, Laurie David, Leo Dicaprio and others fly their private jets in to each venue? That’s to be determined. One thing for sure is that not only will the media fail to call them out on the duplicity, but also these “earth events” will damage the environment more than you and I do the rest of the year.

Eating lunch at an Indian restaurant earlier today, I was told by the thin, gray-haired man --- reading the New York Times as if it were the bible—that the week was “kicking off downtown with a Culture rally to save the arts.” He and his jeans-wearing middle-aged friends had t-shirts on for the event. My colleagues took their lunch hour to attend, as did many others, the unemployed hippies and collegians notwithstanding. I held down the fort back at the office.

Interestingly, these “save the arts” rallies used to be anti-Bush, since he “declared a war on art, as well as science and Iraq.” But now, with their guy in charge, these Statists kept the hatred toward our governor, a Republican, naturally. I wonder who they spew hatred at in places like Massachusetts or Illinois where Republican leadership is not permitted.

Weather-wise, because you know “global warming"...er..."climate change” will be addressed ad nauseum, temps are, as usual, more than 20 degrees below average right now in Central Indiana, as we continue this record cold winter. But by later this week and into the weekend, it’ll be in the 70s. No doubt folks will say “wow, 70s in April.” Factually, the average late April highs here are 65-69, so this is basically normal.

Insofar as the aforementioned UN “conference,” Britain sadly attended, and while the Obama Administration waffled to the end, America declined. The Republican Jewish Coalition, which had urged a boycott from day one, offered this today:

“The decision to boycott the Durban II conference was always the right decision, and one that should have been made months ago. The anti-Israel and anti-Western bias of the conference was clear from the first. The original Durban conference laid the poisoned groundwork for this one and there was ample reason to believe that Durban II would be just as bad as its predecessor.

President Obama’s mixed signals about the conference gave encouragement to the enemies of the U.S. and of Israel and left our allies wondering where we stood. “Maybe we will, maybe we won’t” is naïve and reckless in international relations, where moral clarity, strength of character, and decisiveness are necessary.”

Happy Earth Week—to those who prefer to ignore true evil and instead fight non-existent “threats.”
